Art jewellery, made with love

Exhibition is Open

The exhibition in Henley opened today.  It has been an interesting learning experience.  I had anticipated I would have a table and would just have to get on with organising my own display.  Instead I was given a cabinet and anything else would be displayed among the other exhibits. I have bits dotted all over the gallery.  I don’t know how this will work out but they have done it before so I am trusting the organisers.  If you would like to visit check out all the details here at Spring Crafts.

I spent the morning there and we had a slow but steady stream of visitors.  I will let you know how it all went next week. I won’t be posting over the next few days but do come back next week for an update and some new work.

Blue and green should never be seen……

Blue and Green So goes the old saying but I say that’s a load of rubbish.  Over the last week I have worked up quite a lot in these colours and I love them.  In this picture are two of the bracelets I mentioned a few days ago (the other one cracked), some pendants, rings and earrings – some still waiting for their posts or bails.  Over the next couple of days I will be finishing off everything, pricing up and getting it packed away ready for the setup for the exhibition on Wednesday evening.

Monte Carlo or Bust?

Bust - Black and White Well, for today it’s bust!  I ordered 3 busts from Ebay for the exhibition next week and they arrived today.  I am very pleased with them.  Here is a picture of one of the busts displaying a simple black and silver necklace I finished yesterday.  I think they will look great next week.

I finished 3 bangles today – well almost!  They all need sanding and a polish.  I also made several rings, earrings and pendants while the bangles were baking. Hopefully you will get to see them tomorrow.

As for Monte Carlo – maybe next year!

A Productive Day

Just a quick note to say I have been very productive today.  Focus is the key – several pairs of earrings, a couple of pendants and a ring all finished off.  Photos will follow when I have more time! Tomorrow I will have a bracelets and bangles day!

Spring Crafts

Soring Crafts

So my sister is safely home, I have braved Ikea (not at all busy thankfully) and also visited a bead store.  I have purchased some bits and pieces to make my stand look attractive, including some lighting and also some  findings I was running short of.  All this, to prepare for my first exhibition.  This will be at Spring Crafts in Henley.  The venue is the Old Fire Station Gallery, Market Place, Henley, RG9 2AG.  There are various artists – ceramics, photography, painting and jewellery.  I am very busy getting things made up hence I might not be posting so often this week.  For more details have a look at the website www.spring-crafts.co.uk.

Don’t Panic Mr Mainwaring!

Long Donut Necklace 2

I am trying to heed this advice but I am starting to get a bit worried about my forthcoming show – have I told you about that yet?  (if not then details tomorrow)

I have not got as much done as I would like.  My trouble is I am still playing around with new ideas (like this long necklace) and these all take time to perfect.  So now I have decided to go back to things I know and can do well.  So today I finished a heart and also got a lot of things underway.  During this week I might not have time to photograph what I am doing as I need to really crack on.  Tomorrow my sister finally returns from the USA after the enforced stay because of volcanic ash.  It has taken this long to get on a flight.  I need to collect her from the airport so that means several hours out of my productive day. Still it will be great to see her and it also means a visit to Ikea to get come props for my show so not all will be wasted.

A new twist

Blue Twists Today I finished a twist on my twist series of necklaces.  This one just has a single strand of twists, made in a subtle blue blend.  I accented with silver beads and I like it!

I also had a lovely meeting with Leonardo who runs a business with his wife Alejandra designing and selling silver jewellery.  He gave me lots of advice and tips ranging including finishing off loops, making bezels and how to display your work. We also touched on some collaborative ideas – all early days but I learned a lot today. Leonardo and Alejandra’s company is called More Precious than Silver.  They have some wonderful stories and are so generous with their time.  Thank you Leo!

Mini Sculpture

Sculpture One of the things I finished yesterday was a mini sculpture I have made for a lovely friend of mine.  She is having treatment for breast cancer and she is such an inspiration. This piece is to tell her how much she is loved and how special she is.

I also finished a gold and copper twist necklace and a prototype flower necklace.  I am very pleased with the twists – the more I make of these the more I am refining the process. I am not sure if I am too keen on the flower necklace but the idea has promise.

There’s a moose loose aboot this hoose

Not exactly sure about the spelling!  I went under the cupboard under the stairs to find some beads from the stash I keep there.  I noticed a few mouse droppings – oh no!  I decided I needed to give the space a bit of a clear out.  There were a few nibbled bits of cardboard but the thing that really made me laugh was a plastic bag, completely empty, very neatly tied (by me) but with a mouse size hole in one corner.  Originally this bag had been full of starch packing pellets which I had saved to use to make hollow beads.  So not only is there moose loose but it must be quite fat!  So much for the cat! Anyway time for some remedial action I think.

I have been finishing things but haven’t had time to take proper pictures and post.  I will get some photos done and posted tomorrow.

More time than planned

Well for once I actually had more time than I had thought because of course I couldn’t collect my sister from the airport as she was still in New York as a casualty of the volcanic ash. So that has been rescheduled for another as yet unknown day.

So I did some sanding, some fiddling and some creating.  Lots of fun.  First up were some more extruder experiments in some bright colours.  These have been inspired by the wonderful work at PurpleCactusStudios. In a way they are not really finished as I have not attached bails to them but forgive me for that!

I also polished up some mokume gane I created from  the scrap I mentioned yesterday.  I am very pleased with these and I have some more veneers still to use.

I made up some skinny blends using similar colours to the extruder pictures above.  I used a store bought channel bangle and created a pendant from the scraps.

And finally I made a quick ring with the end of a cane component – just for fun!  So I feel as if I have caught up a bit with some of my thing a day projects!
